Favorite Girl
Today E and I went to see his friend Dara at the Firetruck park. Before Dara arrived, E and I had some time to hang out by ourselves. Next to the park is a field that is at the bottom of a huge hill. The hills is covered with pine trees. The hill is very steep and hard to walk down. You either have to walk very slowly or scoot on your bottom down the hill. If you walk, once you get close to the bottom you have to run or you will fall. E loved doing this and we did it together many times. There is grass that covers most of the hill and E enjoyed pulling out some of the grass and throwing it on to my head. At one point, he laid down on the grass and looked up into the trees. He asked me to lay down too. I laid down right next to him and held his hand. We laid that way for a while until he reached over and touched my chest and said, "Momma, you are my favorite girl". I told him he was my favorite boy and he smiled.

Our Favorite Everyday Place
There is this park in SM that has everything an almost two year old could need. Evan loves being there so much. We do try to go at least every other day so he can play in water, sand and run in a wide field of green grass. They also have a great Toddler playground. He climbs up and does the slide all by himself. He just loves it. It is a fun day for us.

The Rock Collectors

We are having so much fun in Palm Springs. I can't imagine what it will be like not to have a house anymore....Evan has everything he loves here. Water, Rocks, Cats, Sprinklers, Smoothies and today his friend Isabel. Our friends were on their way back to LA from Phoenix and stopped by to say hello. Evan got to share his rock supply with Isabel.

It's Spring
We met some friends at the beach tonight for dinner and the sunset. We had the best time. It was relaxing and so easy. The kids played in the sand and had the best time. I just got Evan a pair of sunglasses. I bought the because he loves my glasses so much I thought he might like a pair of his own. He has started to wear them more and more. Tonight we got to the beach around 5pm. He was sporting his sun hat and glasses. He looked like such a California boy.

Happy? Birthday
Today was Evan's birthday party. Wow. What a day it has been. This morning Evan was really fussy and I noticed there were two new teeth cutting through his gum. We gave him some Tylenol and he seemed better. We got to the party and he played with Sofia while we were setting up. Just about the time the party started Evan started screaming. I have never heard him so upset. It was a screaming in pain cry. This went on for most of the day. Tears rolled down his cheeks (and mine) and the only thing that seemed to help him was to nurse. We nursed and Steven walked Evan around alot to look at the ducks which seemed to aid in the distraction. When we got home Evan was worse than he was at the party. He could not get comfortable. We didn't open one of his presents. I nursed him and tried to get him to sleep. Three hours later he is finally sleeping.
The best part of today was when we first got home Steven was holding Evan. Evan was looking at me so I waved at him. He smiled and waved back. It was the sweetest thing ever.
I have hope that Monday (his real birthday) will be much more of a happy day.

The Pumpkin Patch
We went to the pumpkin patch today. We met up with our playgroup. It was a fun day of pictures and seeing giant pumpkins. Evan's favorite word right now is "Ooooooo" and he used it alot today! He was fascinated by the pumpkins. He would pat them and say "Oooooo". He would walk towards them with such excitement. It was a fun day.

New Things
Evan has started to get frustrated if he isn't standing up. He depends on me helping him to stand. Everyday now, my little boy looks at me and says with no words..."Mommy help me, help me to stand!". He says this in various ways but mainly grunts and tiny whines. The reward is as soon as I offer my hands he gets so excited he can hardly stand. He now walks holding my hands. Every now and then as we are walking, he will stop to look up at me and give me the biggest proud smile. I melt each time I see this little face of such pride and excitement.
On Saturday, we went on a picnic with some friends at a park here in SM. It was a cloudy overcast day. It felt like we were living in San Fran. We bundled Evan up in his blue hoodie and made our way to the park. He is getting more adventurous and crawling off the blanket and sitting in the grass. We were all looking at him and I noticed the his rolled up sleeves had unrolled themselves. There my little boy was clapping his hands and watching the fabric of the hoodie go back and forth. I have been teaching him to clap since he was born. It was so fun to see him learning to clap.
It is an amazing thing watching your little boy learn. The lesson or the new trick happens so randomly. It just clicks and they start to do it like they have always known how. "It" happens on a Tuesday night before bed or first thing on a Thursday. These special new things make everyday so special.

Kick Kick Kick
Whenever Evan gets really content and happy he kicks. It is the cutest thing to see. Tonight he was sitting in his highchair getting slightly frustrated when Daddy took a napkin away he was trying to eat. I quickly gave Evan a teething biscuit and the smile made it clear he was happy. But what further sealed that happiness for me is hearing those little legs kicking in and out under the table as he enjoyed his biscuit.
This week we had a nice Thursday with Sofia and Brandie. At the very end of our visit Brandie ran inside for a minute before we parted our ways. We left the two kiddos in each of their strollers looking at the fountain in my courtyard. As I was looking at those two sitting out there I heard a giggle. I peeked around the corner to see Evan with a huge smile on his face looking at Sofia. Sofia would talk back and Evan would giggle and kick in happiness. It was the sweetest interaction I have ever seen with Evan and another child. They really are buddies! I kept watching them from inside the door all the while making sure they didn't notice my presence. I didn't want to intrude on this exchange between friends. Evan continued to giggle and his kicks kept getting higher and higher.
I never want to forget the sound of those little giggles or watching those happy kicks.

Our Weekend
Evan and I were on our own this weekend. Daddy was busy leading a training seminar.
Evan and I went to the Hammer on Saturday. He did great on his first trip to a museum. He especially loved the open courtyard full of bamboo.
Today we went for a walk with Rachel and Isabel. It was nice to hang out with them. rachel and I walked into Westwood with our babies in our Ergos each taking a nap. Evan was on my front and Isabel was on Rachel's back.
I gave Evan his first egg yolk yesterday. I scrambled it and offered it to him in the soft small pieces. He liked it. Today I gave him yogurt for the first time. I offered it with some applesauce mixed inside. He LOVED it.
Evan is so funny because whenever you start a feeding he opens his mouth just enough to sip a taste of what you are offering him to eat. "A taste test". If he likes it he opens his mouth wide for the next bite!

What a Week!
This week has been busy. It started when Ena came to visit last week for a few days. Then, Todd and Esther came to see Evan for the first time. They were so fun to have visit. Evan loved them. He loved playing on Todd' s lap as Todd is great at noises, bounces and jumps! Esther is the perfect "lets' go to nap friend"...She was so funny. She took Evan in the ergo around the block to help him fall asleep. He fell asleep and when she was ready to walk back to me, she couldn't find me! She called and said, "Hey Evan is asleep but, I am embarrassed to say, I am a little lost!".
Evan started a phase this week that is a little difficult. He doesn't like restaurants. Well-he doesn't like loud restaurants. We went out to eat with T&E and Evan had a breakdown. It got so bad I finally just took him outside and waited for Steven to finish. I think the loud restaurants over stimulate poor baby. As soon as we were out of the place Evan was back to his happy little self.
Evan is working on crawling. He is going to be all over this apartment in about a month. He can crawl backwards and spin on his belly in all directions. He is rolling over at will now. I never find him how I placed him. He is careful with falling down from a sitting position too. If he starts to slip he will brace himself for the fall and roll instead of knock down. I bought EVan some blocks today. I am hoping to entice his crawling by building towers for him to knock down. I also found out that my eyeglasses and iphone are good encouragement too!

Watermelon Eating Contest
This last weekend we had all the babies at the pool eating watermelon for the first time. Isabel who was our hostess won the contest hands down! She is the expert watermelon eater!! But these three little ones didn't do too bad either.
Sofia thinks this is yummy and cannot believe the whole piece is just for her!
Evan cannot believe how good it tastes! Mommy this feels so good on my sore gums. Please don't move it away!Monday, July 7, 2008
Our Weekend

We had a busy weekend. Yesterday Evan and I had a picnic lunch with Brandie and Sofia. Thanks Brandie! She made the best chicken salad sandwich! It was wrapped in parchment paper and beautifully presented. She said it was from her deli days!
Today we went to Rachel and Isabel's house. We met Rachel through our Monday Mom's group. They invited the Mom's group over for a swimming party. It was so fun. Evan did so well swimming. He was kicking and everything! He treated the pool like it was a giant bathtub. We also gave him his first taste of watermelon. Rachel is great with giving Isabel all sorts of different food. After we all saw Isabel snacking on the watermelon all of us other moms gave it to our babies too! Evan loved it. I think it felt good to his teeth.

Play Group Piglet
Today Evan and I participated in our first playdate outing. We met lots of Moms and lots of babies! We had lunch while the babies all laid around. It was fun to see all of their different stages and compare notes!
