The Daily News

We went to Dr. Bliss today for my 6 week check up. It was one of our first times going out. I took you in the carseat into the office. It worked out fine except I had to walk really far from the car. Should of used the stroller.....lesson learned.

You were great. Everyone thought you were too cute for words and everyone kept trying to glimpse a peek of the baby in the basket. You and I have been sleeping pretty much on the sofa since you were born. It is easier to breast feed you when we wake up in the night but the past few nights we have started all sleeping together with daddy in our bed. So-far so good. I am not ready to give you up to your crib just yet. But-that day is coming. You are getting bigger.

You are eating like crazy this week and are probably having a growth spurt as this is your sixth week. Time is going to fast for me. We played with rattles today. You still love to look out windows and look up at the dining room light fixture at how it makes a starburst of light on the ceiling.

Daddy is dancing with you as I write, as he does each night with the cable music channel.

Evan Pictorial Update-One Month

Dear Evan-One Month Old

Dear Evan,
Happy Birthday!!!

You have changed my life so much. I look at you and I can't believe you are mine. We have had no problems breast feeding. You love to eat! This week you started what your Daddy likes to call "a rogue scream". You will be laying quietly and all of the sudden you scream and then go quiet once again. Your lung capacity has increased! We are trying to learn what this means. So-far we do not know. We are all learning to know all about each other. These are precious times. I keep telling myself that these times are going to go by so quickly so I just take each day in the best I can. I rarely take my eyes off of you!

This was our first week home by ourselves you and me. We have had either Daddy or a visitor here up until now. We are starting to get our routine going. You love to look out our bedroom window. I am not sure what you see out there but it fascinates you! I have been reading to you since the first week you were born. You have started to show interest in a pop up book on color. There is a page showing a tiger. You love that page!

It rained all week so we couldn't take walks. Today was the first day it was clear. You, Daddy and I walked to Peet's and back. You slept all the way there and back.

You are getting bigger. We went to the doctor this week (one month check up) and you are now 8 lbs 6 ounces. You did fine with the shot. You screamed but once I was held you-you were fine. Jaundice is still hanging on slightly. We had another test for it but it showed a negative rating. The yellow coloring hangs on in breast fed babies longer.

Daddy can't wait for you to be bigger. He wants to play with you. I am trying to take one day at a time because all of this will fly by and then you will be 18 years old!

One Month Check Up

Evan's jaundice is still a concern. We had to have his levels checked again. Dr. Roberts said it may be just due to being a breastfed baby that the jaundice is hanging on. We need to check his levels just to be sure.

He is growing! He weighs 8 lbs. 6 ozs. He is 20-1/4" long.

Today

Tomorrow you are one month old. I can't believe how fast time is going by....all I do is sit and hold you and carry you around the house. You would think time would go slower. You sleep alot and still eat every three hours. Right now you are laying next to me on the sofa sleeping. You make all sorts of sounds while you are sleeping. You even open your eyes like you are wide awake but you aren't. My mom has been here all last week. It was so nice to hang out with her and you. She loves you so much. It is nice you have grandparents. I wish we all lived closer.

Today really was our first day together you and me. The first month Daddy was home and then we have had all the grand parents here visiting. So-today was the first day of our life together as mom and son. It was a quiet day. You slept from midnight to 5am. (Thank you!) and then we fed you and changed your diaper. Then, we wandered around the house and I picked up things and put things away. For these first few months I refuse to put you down. It is all about being connected to each other. So I carry you and hold you for almost the entire day. You like to lie on the dining room table and watch the pendant over ahead. I make it sway so you see it moving. Then you took another nap.

Our First Walk

Ahhh...the outdoors feels good after being in the house for two weeks.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life...

Tomorrow the building is undergoing construction in the courtyard. I am concerned about your ears. They are jackhammering the concrete! I guess we are going to hide out at Laurie's most of the day as it is the furthest away from the noise. You need a bath. You get this milk residue around your neck and every few days I see it and think...boy this guy needs a bath. It smells like stinky cheese!

You are a happy little guy. The last two days have been harder....you seem to want to eat a lot more. In fact you woke me at 4am and weren't finished feeding until 7:30am and then started up again at 8am until almost 9am. I guess it's a growth spurt. Healthwise I am better today. My mom arrives on Sunday and that will be helpful.

I am also feeling quite separate from my "normal" life. Feeling the separation has made me realize what a full life I had. Not that I won't now...it is just different and I have to find a new one for myself and for you.

You have the hiccups right now. You get them a couple of times a day. Sometimes they don't seem to bother you and sometimes they do. Gotta go...you are about to cry.

Rainy Days

It was a rainy day. You slept all day and I slept with you. You pretty much slept through the night. (midnight-5am) you kept waking me up with cute little noises...so I thought you wanted to eat and then realize you were just making noises in your sleep.

Birth Weight and Trust

You are at your birth weight! You have grown 3/4" (19-3/4") so that means we can try to let you sleep through the night. Your tear duct is not operating yet in your left eye. So we have to put antibiotics in it to keep it from getting in type of infection. You are still slightly jaundice but looking better. The doctor says it will just take time and now that you are two weeks there is no concern for it to effect you in anyway. So-much of this new parent stuff is just trusting the people around you that they know what is right! You are so precious. You sleep all the time. You are staying a wake a little longer each day but pretty much sleeping all day long. I am waking you up every three hours for food. I hate to wake you up as you cry and get frustrated....you like sleeping in this fluffy white pillow on my lap.

Daddy loves to dance with you and play music. You seem to love the music and stare out into space observing it. I wonder what you will be like when you are older? What will you love? What will be your passion? What will be your favorite color? We read your first Dr. Seuss book today: There's a wocket in my pocket.

Pencil Erasers and Other Sexy Thoughts

When I started to breast feed I was shocked at how a feeding distorted my nipples. I looked down one day and thought...Oh my God, I have pencil erasers for nipples. Thank God, they go back into place. I wonder if they will still behave after a year of breast feeding?
