The Santa Monica Library

This place rocks! It is an amazing place. I had gone to the temporary one while the new one was being built. It was so awful that I gave up on it. We met some of our play group today at the farmer's market and for lunch. On our way back walking home we stopped at the library.

Evan and I are going make it a point to go every week. We checked out some books and CDs today. Well-I did the checking out while Evan took a nap.

Thirsty

I was nursing Evan today and took a drink from my water bottle. Evan watched me closely. I took another drink and this time he reached up for my bottle. I looked down at him and asked if he wanted some water. I turned the bottle spout to his mouth. He opened his mouth and I poured a small amount of water into his mouth. He swallowed and then had this excited expression on his face. He wanted more. I let him hold the bottle and then gave him another drink from the bottle. This time more got all over the front of him more than in his mouth but it was fun nonetheless!

We went into the kitchen later in the day. I gave him his first sippy cup full of just a small amount of water. He held the cup and tried to chew on it. I helped him turn the cup so he could take a sip. We had so much fun doing this that I didn't even notice that he was getting all wet.

Today proved to me that my little boy is ready to try solids. He is so curious about what we are doing when we eat. I am so excited to show him food.

Up, Up and Away!

Evan is so alert now. He is pretty much eliminating his afternoon nap. Yesterday, he was awake from 3pm until 6pm. He took a 30 minute nap and then was up for an hour to go to asleep by 8pm. He slept until 12:30am. Four hours in a row! This is huge for us as we are working on getting him to sleep in stretches of time instead of hour by hour. He is in a growth spurt as he is sleeping more and eating more. They say that at 6 months babies hit a spurt and I think one is upon us. He is a lot of fun! All he wants to do is stand up and sit up. We have been practicing standing on my lap. I hold his hands and he stands. He loves it. His exersaucer has helped him to get his legs stronger and have more balance. He is growing so fast.

HOM Tradeshow

My old firm was presenting at the DWELL home show at the LA Convention center today. We went with Sofia and Brandie. When we arrived we were told that there were no babies allowed. You should of seen our faces. We were appalled! Thank goodness we both went and could take turns watching the babies as we each went in to view the show. The display was amazing. I had worked hard for the past two years helping to develop this modular home and all of the furnishing inside of it but have been absent from the process since Evan was born. It looked fantastic. After I viewed the show I ran out to find Brandie and another dear friend of mine who showed up for the show but would rather hold Evan than walk the show. It was fun to see them all waiting for me. Brandie and I took our babies and made a corner table away from the entrance our "baby daycare". This picture is one that Brandie took of the babies when she was caring for them. She used her i-phone and played music to add to our fun baby atmosphere.

Evan in the Park

We are very lucky. We live in SM next to the bluff that overlooks the pacific ocean. It doesn't get better than this! Everyday Evan and I walk this bluff-sometimes twice a day. Each evening when Daddy comes home we go to the bluff to play. We have started to bring a blanket so we can lay Evan out on it and he can enjoy the trees.

We've Come Along Way Baby

I can't believe that Evan will be six months old this month. Time has flown by. Absolutely flown by. I thought that by not working and staying home time would move by slowly. It goes just as fast. Maybe even faster....

Evan doesn't mind stroller rides are car rides anymore. If he is tired or hungry he might get a little noisy! He is getting too big for his infant car seat so in the next month we will need to get him a bigger one. I have heard that the bigger seat is more comfortable and that babies that have struggled with their infant seats like the larger ones. We shall see.

Today was the first time that Evan responded to me with frustration because he couldn't reach a toy he had dropped. He started to cry so I reached down and gave it back to him. Instantly he was all smiles once again to receive the toy. Now if you are picturing a cute teddy bear or a colorful rattle you are far from describing the toy my son is now fond of......it is an empty bag of potato chips! He loves it!!

This last week Evan has also started to place one hand one either side of our necks when we pick him up. It is almost a hug. He is grabbing his feet now like crazy. Once in a while you find him nibbling on one. That is the cutest thing ever.

Today I was eating some yogurt and Evan was staring at me. He watched me eat and then licked his lips as he watched me eat. They say that when a baby is ready to eat solids they really become interested in what you are eating. He sits with me at the table at home or in restaurants and reaches for things on the table. I think by the end of the month we will be giving him solid food. I am really excited to start. It is a whole new world for us!

Sleep is not going so well. I lay him down and within an hour he is back up. Most of the time I can go quickly in and nurse him back to sleep. Not tonight. He was not wanting to sleep. He wanted to be up and about with us. Sometimes I really think he is hungry when he wakes up but mostly I think he just wants my company! I am struggling with knowing what to do to help him get the sleep he needs. I have read all sorts of books and I end up frustrated because each theory has a grain of truth in it but nothing works because every day is different. He still wakes up every 2-3 hours. All I want is for us both to get some sleep.
