Check Up-15 Months

Evan had his 15 month check up today. He weighs exactly 24 pounds and is 33" tall. He is in the 50% for his weight and still in the 95% for his height. His head is 19-1/2" and it is in the 95% too!

He had two shots today. One of which was the MMR which I have been dreading since hearing about having to do it when he was born. He did well. He cried but not too long and was back to himself within minutes. I know the shots are uncomfortable but I think he really objects to the nurse holding his leg still more than the actual shot.

Later this afternoon, we got to hang out with Rachel and Isabel. We had the best time at the bluff playing and then we had a spaghetti dinner! Evan seemed so happy to go to sleep after having such a big day.

My Water Boy

Evan is truly a water baby. He LOVES water. Bath time is his favorite time of day. We will say, "Hey Evan it is your bath time". And he will stop whatever he is doing and walk over to the bathroom door saying "baf, baf, baf" under his breath. He doesn't stop saying, "baf" until he reaches the tub and then it is a shriek of happiness and straining to enter the tub. Tonight I noticed he has started to do this floating on his belly while he is kicking and moving his arms around all the while keeping his face and mouth above the water. This boy was swimming! He loves the ocean and he loves fountains. We have a fountain right outside our door and one down the block that we do see on a regular basis. He loves watching gardeners spray the hose. We always stop and watch the water. I MUST get this boy into some swimming lessons this summer not so much to learn to swim but just for the opportunity to be in the water and splash around!

Dear Evan-15 Months Old

Dear Evan-
This month you have perfected the skill of walking and are having the best time learning about the world from a higher point of view. You love pointing out body parts. You have been pointing out Mama and Dada's noses for some time but now you can point to eyes, ears and mouths too. You can point to your own feet, toes and belly. Learning and walking around the world you have found a love for flowers and leaves. We have been walking around looking at them since you were first born but now if I give you a flower or leaf you hold it like it is the world's greatest treasure. You love to smell things and as soon as you see a flower or what looks like one you give a huge sniff to the air and point motioning that you would like to go to where the flower is. You just love the outdoors. We are so lucky because we live so close to the bluff and other parks. We are outside at least half of all of our days. You love water. Your bath is your favorite time of day. Your favorite toys are still balls and cups. You love to place things inside of things and then take them all out. You are enjoying push toys now and can really push them around the house. I am so glad that you still like to take a quiet moment to sit in the grass with me and look up at the trees. As much as you love walking you still take moments to sit and take the world in and enjoy it. You are such a little boy. You love rocks and sticks. You will say "uuuck" for rock. You sau many words now. I think I have counted about 15. I think you say more than that but I am just trying to keep up as you say something new most everyday. Words: truck, duck, mama, dada or mada (that is what you call us when we are all together) chicken, lights, trees, rocks, socks, shoes, bus, tea, hot, up and down, "kaboom", "a-boo"(for peek-a-boo) and "ouch". You play all sorts of games with us now. You love to be chased and as soon as we take off your diaper you will take off running and giggling knowing we are going to follow you and "gonna get you"! You love to jump on the bed and pretend to fall down. We say "kaboom"! You giggle so much. You also like to tap your own head against the wall and say "ow"! We are trying not to encourage this one as you may actually hurt yourself.

This month we had a playdate with Harrison. Harrison is almost 4. I was concerned that the age difference may make for not a fun playdate but you had the best time. It was the first time I really saw you and another child play side by side. I think it was because you are both so into trucks. He has the biggest and best trucks. You would place all of these blocks into a truck with him and then dump them all out.

You have 11 teeth now. You are are working on more as lastnight was a rough one for us. It is so sad. You are still nursing and often give me a nursing sign because your mouth from teething is so sore. I have also noticed that the sign for "milk" that you do really means you want me to pick you up and hold you and talk to you. It doesn't always mean you are hungry. I am so glad I taught you the signs that we did. It has really helped us to communicate well these last few months. You sign for "All done", "Milk" and "More". We haven't had you 15 month checkup yet. We have it tomorrow afternoon. I am curious to see how tall and bigger you have gotten since 12 months.

We went on our first hiking trip as a family this month. We are always trying to do new activities together and expose you to new things. I find that you are the happiest when the three of us are at home just hanging out. We have cable music stations. I can ask you to go turn on the music and you will walk up to the TV and turn it on then you will smile and start to dance. I can ask you to go throw your diaper away and you will take it to the diaper pail. I usually follow you and open the pail so you can place the diaper into the pail, push it down and then close the lid. This morning I noticed that you took the diaper to the pail all by yourself and the lid was closed so you just laid it on the top! You go right for your highchair when I ask you to go to your chair. You know so many commands now it is amazing to see you at work! I make tea a couple of times a day. You will see me pouring water into the kettle and will say "Tea" "Hota" and will reach out for it just to hurry and pull you hand back in not to get too close to the hot tea.

I love you.
Mama
