Dear Evan-Three Months Old

Dear Evan-
Happy Birthday! It’s your three-month birthday. I can’t believe another month has flown by. You are getting much longer. I can wrap your body around me now. You use to be just in my arms!

You are much more alert and stay awake for longer periods in the day. Our nights have been rough lately. You still get up a lot during the night. Last night you started screaming at 3am. It scared me to death. I think you were having gas bubbles. Once I rotated your knees a bit, you were ok again and fell asleep in my arms. My new idea is that I need to get us in the sun more so you know how great the world is out there! We took a walk this morning and we will take another when Daddy gets home. The time changed so it is lighter longer allowing us to take walks at the end of the day.

Recently, you have not liked your car seat or stroller. All you want is for me to hold you. I bring my sling along on our walks so if you don’t want to “stroll” and would like me to hold you I can easily accommodate. Lately, we have just been taking walks using the sling and we are both happy. It gets me exercising carrying you a mile or two.

It has been fun this month watching all of your smiles! You are cooing and making all sorts of noises. We play the game "copycat" with you and it is amazing to see how you respond. Daddy will wait to respond to your sounds and you look at him and just squeal in delight waiting for him to respond with the next sound. Your squeals are hilarious. We love that you are learning to talk to us. You have also started to enjoy just playing by yourself for a time. We have an activity gym. It plays music and has blinking lights. I call it “Baby Las Vegas”. You giggle when “Skip to My Lou" plays.

We are part of a baby playgroup. It is 8-10 Mommies and their babies. We have lunch each Monday and put all the babies on a huge rug outside so you can look up and see the trees. Your eyes are getting less sensitive to sunlight and I think you loved seeing the patterns of the tree branches above. The group is going to be great for us. Especially as you get older and start to acknowledge the babies around you. Your little friend Sofia is a month older and she screams trying to get your attention. You just keep staring at the trees or me.

Daddy says you only have eyes for Mommie. You love to stare at me. When I walk into the room your eyes follow me. It amazes me how you know my voice and how it can give you comfort in the middle of the night. You will start to toss and turn making a small cry. If I say “Hi Evan. I am right here”. You will start snoring within minutes, that is if you aren’t hungry! In the afternoons, you get sleepy and want me to hold you. I pick you up and will try to then finish up what I am working on. You give a little cry and I look down at you to find you smile upon my gaze. If I look away again you will whimper until our eyes once meet. I keep saying to myself you are only three months old how can you crave all of my attention all ready?!

You are starting to hold things with your hands. I leave toys around you so you will soon learn to pick them up. I place one in your hand and it surprises you when you lift it. Lately, you have started to hold the bottom of your shirt. You like edges of things. You like to hold my shirt when we nurse and sometimes hold my hand.

We think you are starting to feel teeth pain. You chew on your hands and drool. You can get fussy and between hand chews you let us know you are uncomfortable. It is a new cry. A sad cry.

This next month should be an exciting one. We keep working on tummy time. We are waiting to see you hold your head up!

xoxo

Mommie
